To educate Americans about Arab countries, the
Middle East, and the Islamic world through leadership development, people-to-people
programs, lectures, publications, and grassroots outreach.
Vision
A
relationship between the United States and its Arab friends that rests on
a solid, enduring foundation – characterized by strengthened and expanded
strategic, economic, political, commercial, and defense ties; by a
reciprocity of respect for each others’ culture and heritage; by
increasing partnership; and by an overall mutuality of benefit.
Founded in 1983, the
National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations is an American non-profit, non-governmental,
educational organization dedicated to improving American knowledge and understanding of
the Arab world.
From its offices in Washington, DC, the National Council works with
other groups to provide resources and maximize effectiveness. To this end, the National
Council convenes meetings of the heads of a dozen U.S.-Arab organizations devoted to
discussing strategies for sharing information and resources.
The National Council is not a membership organization. Its supporters
are primarily individuals and institutions in the United States and the Arab world who
have hosted or participated in one of the National Council's programs. Their involvement
with the National Council often begins with a single event or activity and then, based on
that experience, grows into a broader and lasting relationship based on mutual interests
and concerns. By following up with participants, facilitators, hosts, sponsors, friends
and supporters and constantly reaching out to others the National Council
steadily increases the number of people who are informed and involved in the national
dialogue on U.S. relations with the Arab world.
The National Council has been granted public charity status in
accordance with Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. All contributions are
tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by U.S. law.
