The Arts in Cairo Program

The Arts in Cairo is a summer program for current undergraduate university students. Courses will be held on The American University in Cairo’s downtown (Tahrir) campus.

One course in each of the following topic areas will be offered:

  • Film
  • Art
  • Music
  • Theatre

The program will run from June 7- July 22, 2010.

The program costs approximately $5,500 USD per student.

The total includes:

  • Courses
  • Housing
  • Activities fee

The total DOES NOT include:

  • Airfare
  • Mandatory health insurance
  • Local transportation
  • Meals
  • Incidentals

Intensive Arabic Language Program

Immerse yourself in studying Arabic. Benefit from AUC’s state-of-the-art facilities, top-notch faculty members and numerous cultural field trips. Credits for all courses are easily transferred to your home university.

Select Among Courses at the Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Levels:
Modern Standard Arabic (3 credits)
Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (2 credits)
Printed Media Arabic (1 credit)
Writing in Arabic (1 credit)

Additional One-Credit Courses:
Readings in the Quran (elementary and intermediate)
Aural Media Arabic (intermediate and advanced)
Translation (intermediate and advanced)
Readings in Modern Arabic Literature (intermediate and advanced)

Enjoy co-curricular acting, singing, poetry reading, calligraphy or Arabic typing. Hear noted Egyptian figures lecture on current political and socioeconomic issues. Tour the Giza pyramids, Saqqara and Memphis, the Egyptian Museum, Al-Azhar Mosque and Old Cairo on organized excursions (at no extra cost).

Join two weekend tours, at reduced cost:

  • Sinai, where you will visit St. Catherine’s monastery and enjoy the coral reefs at Sharm El-Sheikh
  • A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, visiting Pharaonic monuments along the way

July 22 Final classes and exams


Cost:
Fees for international nondegree students (study-abroad and exchange students):
$4,895 -Six to eight credit hours, depending on level and electives
$735 -Double room in the Zamalek Dormitory, from June 3 to July 24 (The student residences at AUC New Cairo are also an option)
$5,630 - Total Cost

Students pay their own airfare to and from Cairo, mandatory health insurance, local transportation, meals and incidentals, as well as their share of the two optional trips.
